IT IS THE YEAR 2016
CORRUPTION IN INDIA IS AT ITS WORST
HERE'S THE SOLUTION (NOT)
Speech regarding Demonetisation addressed by Narendra Modi, PM of India
On 8 November 2016, the Government of India announced the demonetisation of all ₹500 and ₹1,000 banknotes.
The sudden nature of the announcment and the prolonged cash shortages in the weeks that followed created significant disruption throughout the economy, threatening economic output.
This created a lot of problems for people all around the country: There were days when people had to stand in long queues for hours at an end with no certainty of receiving money at all. I decided to take up on the (then) ongoing issue and make an ATM which would spread happiness amongst the people in vain.
YAYTM is an interactive installation which spreads happiness by asking people to take interesting challenges and rewarding them with 💰💰💰
The structure of the installation was rather simple.
It consists of an arcade like design, which was built entirely with honeycomb cardboard for stability and portability.
There is also a button which is the only means of interaction.
The measurements are listed below:
The core idea behind this project was to get people to help not only themselves, but even the people around them.
The purpose of going to an ATM would be mostly to withdraw money for yourself, but this one would benefit everyone around you in a time of distress.
HOW IT WORKS
1. In order to get to the machine, you will have to do something funny/ have a competition with your friends! For example: Moonwalk to the machine, or put a lemon on a spoon and see who reaches first, etc.
2. Once they’re at the machine, The notes that would be given to people would look exactly like the ₹2000 note.
But once the note is flipped, there would be a message/challenge for people to do for someone else, or themselves.
3. Your message/challenge could include things like helping out the elderly or taking someone out on a date: It's all about doing things for others.
The installation was up only for one day, but it did garner some interest and was quite a fun experience for quite a lot of people. Some did go ahead and do the tasks, but at the end of the day it did bring a smile upon the faces of a lot of people.
